Install
tar xzf termtorrent-0.1.tar.gz
cd termtorrent-0.1
sudo ./install.sh
The installer puts termtorrent in /usr/local/bin. To install without root:
PREFIX=$HOME/.local ./install.sh
Or copy the script directly:
install -m 0755 termtorrent ~/.local/bin/termtorrent
Before the first run, enable the SCGI socket in ~/.rtorrent.rc:
network.scgi.open_local = /home/YOURUSER/.rtorrent-scgi.sock
Verify the checksum
sha256sum termtorrent-0.1.tar.gz
Expected:
c6a808b24db47bd4ea334d9164a2c22fd2bdf1e5da56039b3a59af57683d4e1c
The same value is published in downloads/SHA256SUMS.
Uninstall
sudo rm /usr/local/bin/termtorrent
If you used a PREFIX, remove the file from that prefix instead. termtorrent writes no configuration, cache or session files; rtorrent’s data is not touched.
Questions before you install
Do I need root to install termtorrent?
No. The installer writes to /usr/local by default, which needs root, but you can install into your home directory with PREFIX=$HOME/.local or simply copy the script to ~/.local/bin.
Is rtorrent included in the download?
No. rtorrent is a separate program and is not bundled. Install it with your package manager, for example sudo apt install rtorrent on Debian or Ubuntu.
Does termtorrent work without rtorrent running?
No. It is a front-end that talks to rtorrent over SCGI; without a running client there is nothing to control.
How do I verify the download?
Compare the SHA-256 hash shown on this page with sha256sum termtorrent-0.1.tar.gz. The same hash is published in downloads/SHA256SUMS.
How do I uninstall termtorrent?
Remove the installed script with sudo rm /usr/local/bin/termtorrent (or the path you chose). termtorrent keeps no state of its own.
